An alumni of Art Center College of Design’s BFA program, Derek was educated in the traditional techniques of photography, illustration and graphic design. After graduating from the Advertising program in 2005, Derek spent a decade in the agency world—working as an Art Director for a variety of Los Angeles-based advertising and marketing agencies. His print and digital work has been widely published; and he has directed a handful of commercial video projects—including a national broadcast commercial for K-Swiss. He has also created comprehensive marketing campaigns for brands such as: Nestle, LA Galaxy, Knott's Berry Farm, ABC and Toyota.
In 2016, Derek produced his first solo photography show, "The American West". The show was a 2-month residency and featured 2 opening events. Sponsored by the Lincoln Experience Center.
Derek just completed a multi-year tour with Toyota's Rally RAV4 racing team—documenting an American Rally Association championship win (2WD). Derek currently lives in Redondo Beach, California–with his wife Britney (a newborn photographer) and his baby daughter. Derek is continuing his education via Harvard Extension School, focusing on anthropology and archeology.
